What are common envelope sizes?
Envelopes are available
in many different sizes, and you can even have custom
envelopes made. Each size is referred to by a number.
The most common ones are:
#6 1/4 - 3

Are colored envelopes available?
Yes,
you can purchase colored envelopes in a variety of
styles and sizes. Most office supply companies, along
with specialty paper supply companies will carry
them. We recommend you take a walk through your local
Kelly Paper for a good selection.
What
size envelope is most commonly
used?
The
No. 10, at 4-1/8" x 9-1/2"
is
the
most
common
business envelope size, and
fits standard 8-1/2" x 11"
sheets of paper perfectly.
What
is the size of the window
on standard business
envelopes?
Typically
business envelopes will have
a window that measures 4-1/2"
x 1-1/8"
What guidelines should I follow
for a custom envelope?
Following
USPS guidelines, to be eligible for mailing at the postage
rates for letters, a piece must be:
- Rectangular
- At
least 3-1/2" high x 5" long x .007" thick
- No
more than 6-1/8" high x 11-1/2" long x 1/4" thick
